Dr. Hainline attended the University of Notre Dame from 1974 through 1978. He majored in philosophy as part of the pre-professional program. Dr. Hainline graduated Phi Beta Kappa, and played number one in singles and doubles on the varsity tennis team during his senior year.
Dr. Hainline went to medical school at the University of Chicago – Pritzker School of Medicine from 1978-1982, and after obtaining his medical degree, he performed his internship in internal medicine at the University of Chicago Hospitals and Clinics. He then studied neurology at The New York Hospital – Cornell Medical Center, and completed his neurology residency in 1986. He was privileged to study under Fred Plum and Jerome Posner, two of the world’s preeminent neurologists.
Upon completion of his residency program, Dr. Hainline became a full-time faculty member at North Shore University Hospital – Cornell University Medical College. While at North Shore from 1986 through 1991, he became the Neurology Residency Program Director. He was director of the Neuro-oncology program, and he was named acting co-chairman of the department in 1990.
In 1991, Dr. Hainline joined the full-time staff at Hospital for Joint Diseases – New York University Medical Center. He began his services at Hospital for Joint Diseases as the Director of Clinical Neurology and Sports Neurology. In 1994 he became vice-chair of the Department of Neurology, and in 1996 he became co-director of their Pain Center. Under his leadership, the clinical neurology service expanded to include a comprehensive neurophysiology laboratory; a multiple sclerosis center of excellence; a traumatic brain injury unit; and a comprehensive general neurology service.
In 1997, Dr. Hainline joined ProHEALTH Care Associates in Lake Success, New York. ProHEALTH is a multi-specialty physician practice, with over 100 physicians, multiple medical specialty services, comprehensive radiology and diagnostic imaging, and an ambulatory surgery center. At ProHEALTH, Dr. Hainline is Chief of the Division of Neurology and Integrative Pain Medicine. This comprehensive division includes four neurologists; 3 pain medicine interventionalists; 1 massage therapist and group therapy leader; 3 physical therapists; 2 nurse practitioners; psychological counseling services; and numerous support services. The Division of Neurology and Integrative Pain Medicine has become a model for comprehensive and compassionate medical care, with a special blend of scientific methodology and mind-body wholistic medicine, all within an evidence-based framework.
